SPEECH AND LANGUAGE SERVICES FOR ADULTS
Adults of all ages may seek the support of a communication professional, such as a Speech-Language Pathologist for many reasons. We strongly believe that our adult clients deserve a thoughtful and respectful space to address their communication needs.
After discussing your concerns and completing an assessment to get to know your strengths and areas for support, you and your Speech-Language Pathologist will work as a team to create an individualized therapy plan using the goals that we establish together. We work on building connections with each client so that you feel comfortable and confident while working with us. We harness our experience and use evidence-based therapy approaches to make our sessions enjoyable and effective.
Our services are provided through virtual care (telepractice), which allows sessions to be completed conveniently and safely in the environment that best suits your needs.

We provide intervention in the following areas:

-
Speech/Motor Speech (how you sound when you talk)
-
Language (how you understand others and get your message across)
-
Fluency (also sometimes called stuttering or stammering)
-
Literacy (your reading and writing skills)

Adults who seek our services are often (but not always) looking for support due to the following communication difficulties or disorders:

-
Aphasia: A language disorder following brain damage or disease that causes difficulty with using and/or understanding language.
-
Apraxia: A speech planning and programming disorder that makes it difficult to get your words and sentences out, resulting in "jumbled" or out-of-order messages.
-
Dysarthria: A group of motor speech disorders due to weakness/paralysis or reduced control of the muscles needed for speech, resulting in speech that may sound "slurred", quiet, slow and more difficult to understand.
-
Fluency disorders: Also commonly called stuttering, this is a group of disorders that cause a disruption in the normal flow/rhythm of speech. Some of our clients have stuttered for most of their lives, and others may have more recently experienced stuttering due to a head injury or stroke.
