Speech-Language Pathologist
Owner-Constellation Speech Therapy
I’m a Montreal-born Speech-Language Pathologist, mother, and the owner of Constellation Speech Therapy. I have always had a deep love for, and fascination with, language. As far back as I can remember, being a Speech-Language Pathologist was the “dream job”--to me, it symbolizes a profession that combines two of the things that I value the most: communicating and helping. After getting a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics from McGill University, I went on to complete a Masters of Clinical Sciences in Speech-Language Pathology from Western University.
I began my career working as a Speech-Language Pathologist at a teaching hospital in northern British Columbia. The hospital’s location meant that we were the main medical center for an incredibly large territory. I worked primarily in inpatient rehabilitation and post-surgical acute care. Since our patients came from far and wide, I was fortunate to work closely with many different patient populations and serve people with a broad range of swallowing and communication difficulties. My team had the privilege of working with many patients from First Nations communities across the north of the province, many of whom had traveled very long distances to access speech and language services. I learned a great deal about the numerous barriers that people residing in rural and remote communities are faced with daily. It was here that I learned the true value of not only working with my patients but with their families, their communities, and other healthcare professionals to create a network of advocates, so that everybody is working collaboratively to achieve the goal of improved communication.
After this, I decided to continue my professional growth closer to family. I worked in private practice in Ontario with clients across the lifespan, providing therapy both in person and via virtual care. I was fortunate to be able to continue to work remotely with, and travel to, First Nations communities. It was while working in private practice that I realised how fulfilling it is to stand alongside someone as we navigate their entire communication health journey. Working in private practice means being there for my clients every step of the way, whether that means supporting a child’s language and literacy while they are transitioning from elementary to high school, coaching a first time mother with strategies to help their little one learn to communicate, or helping a client and their family get back to what matters to them the most following an illness or injury.
These experiences inspired me to open my own private practice when I returned to my roots in Montreal, QC, in 2020. Constellation Speech Therapy was born out of the belief in the importance of connection, and that helping people to find a way to communicate is fundamental to the human experience. My goal is to help everybody--whether they are under one or over one hundred years old--to connect with their own “constellation”.
